In a provincial town in the south of the USSR in 1962 Lyudmila, devoted to the Communist Party and idealistic veteran of the Second World War, is a scourge for everything she perceives as anti-Soviet sentiment. Along with other local Party officials, she was surprised by a strike at a local factory, in which her own daughter took part. As the situation quickly gets out of control, Lyudmila begins desperately searching for her daughter, facing curfews, mass arrests and brutal attempts by the authorities to cover up state violence. His faith in the Party was then shaken.
