The International Film Festival on Art (FIFA) are pleased to announce that the documentary Comme un vague (Like a Wave) will be presented in official competition at the 39th edition of FIFA, which will take place from March 16 to 28, 2021. Presented by Jean-Marc Vallée, produced by Alex Sliman and directed by Marie-Julie Dallaire, the film will start screening in cinemas on Friday, April 2.

The documentary, which pays tribute to music, gives the floor to speakers from different backgrounds including singer-songwriter Patrick Watson, renowned cellist Stéphane Tétreault, acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton, music therapist Tiana Malone, ethnomusicologist Nathalie Fernando, composer and DJ Osunlade, neuroscience consultant Valorie N. Salimpoor and many others through an immersive soundscape. A unique experience that will allow the viewer to feel the musical thrill in the cinema.

“I would like to thank FIFA for this selection in the official competition. I could not have hoped for a better showcase for my film, as the cinemas reopen their doors and it was designed to be shared by an audience in the flesh. I wanted this documentary, which pays tribute to the power of music, to be unifying in the image of its main character, this abstract and immaterial thing, as vital as food, as powerful as sex and as intoxicating as drugs,” says director Marie-Julie Dallaire.

“We rarely get to see a movie like Comme un Vague that invites us to take the time to listen first. And from the first few minutes, the magic works,” says Jean-Marc Vallée, executive producer, Crazyrose.

“Comme un vague is a beautiful musical journey that comforts us and makes us live emotions that remain for a long time in us.  The International Film Festival on Art is delighted to partner with Seville Films to promote the film made here and offer this splendid film to the PUBLIC of FIFA,” said Jacinthe Brisebois, DIRECTOR of programming for films on art at FIFA.

Synopsis : As a wave pays homage to music, this sequence of sounds abstract, immaterial and invisible that provokes in the brain the same reaction as chocolate, sex or drugs.

Conceived as a cinematic wave, this documentary takes us from Montreal to Cremona via Sweden, Mexico and the American West Coast to meet fascinating scientists and artists who, from their diverse horizons, illustrate the essential link between rhythm, music, our planet, the brain, daily life and our collective humanity.
