Gauguin & Guernica
Two short film by Alain Resnais
The film publication Vague Visages had this to say: “If GAUGUIN and GUERNICA shine a light on their respective subjects, they also present a key part of Resnais’ own development as an artist. It is exciting to have these formative works readily available and given the same consideration as the filmmaker’s other key films.”
Lost Course & Oxhide
Two New Independent Chinese Films
Jill Li’s Golden Horse Award-winning doc LOST COURSE shows an unprecedented experiment in local democracy in a small village in China. The LA Times proclaims it to be, “the most rewarding of personal, verité-driven lenses.”
Meanwhile in OXHIDE, daily life in an impossibly cramped Beijing apartment takes on epic proportions. This film is an intimate portrait, with unprecedented access, of a working-class Chinese family. Cinema Scope hails it as “the most important Chinese film of the past several years!”
