Following another COVID-affected summer since last year’s scaled-down ShazamSeries, the festival is back with a nearly-normal, safe-but-just-as-quirky 15.5th edition!
From July 9 to 11, Quebec’s largest outdoor showcase of whimsical talent takes over ShazamFest Founder/Director Ziv Przytyk’s pristine organic family farm in the Eastern Townships, with a locally-loaded lineup of musical concerts, circus acts, burlesque numbers, dance performances, athletic showcases, activities for kids, and so much more!
⚡ HIGHLIGHTS ⚡ |
ShazamFest XV.V’s headlining musical acts include Quebec’s politically-charged rap sensation Sarahmée, uplifting festival-goers with mad skills on the mic and positive messages, alongside her exhilarating dance crew; Montreal’s neo-disco glam squad Barry Paquin Roberge, lighting up the crowd with neon lights and dreams of endless nights; pioneering local rocker Frank Custeau dishing up country-infused folk, flavoured from his previous punk palette; and ‘Queb trad’ troupe Excavation & Poésie, offering lyric-forward folk tunes to incite spoon-clacking, foot-stomping, call-your-uncle-Bob hootenannies! Additional must-see features include the tales of master storyteller Petronella Van Dijk, the wacky antics of Sherbrooke’s premiere comedy improv troupe Les Frayeurs d’Ailleurs, and the first edition of Ziv’s Freakshow & Burlesque review, a showcase of talent that ranges from the hilarious hijinks of Quebec’s sexiest clown Bibi Lolo BangBang to the uncomfortable feats of master of pain Steve Winchester. |
ShazamFest‘s 2021 programming is rounded out by a unique mix of musical acts and performance artists from the Eastern Townships and across the province, including: Perfect Strangers, Papi Chulo & su Grupo Invisible, Chaloupe, Les P’tites Germaines, Bless Her Evil (Grand Prize Winner – Battle for Shazam 2021), Tribal Roses, DJ Tony Montreal, Les Maîtres du Feux, Occult Witches, Wistiti (Runner-Up – Battle for Shazam 2021), Birthday Suit Special, and so many more! |
⚡ BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND ⚡ |
L’Académie de Lutte Estrienne is back with ringside wrestling spectaculars, as is the increasingly popular Canadian Redneck Beard, Moustache & Mullet Contest with its ultimate crowd-pleaser Best Fake Beard category for children and adults of all genders and ages! Even more beloved ShazamFest favourites return to fill out the festivities, including the mega-fireside ShazamJam, giant bubble workshops by Les SomnamBulles, socially-distanced outdoor morning Yoga Sessions, a magical Artisan Market, and local organic fare safely served-up by the fest’s beloved food vendors. The complete ShazamFest XV.V lineup is available at www.ShazamFest.com. |
⚡ GREEN TO THE CORE ⚡ |
ShazamFest’s pioneering eco-responsible commitment has been at the heart of the festival since its beginnings – with only 12 trash bags produced at its last edition by nearly 2,000 participants over 3 days – and it aims to outdo itself this year again! Organizers discourage festival-goers from bringing single-use plastics onsite by opting instead for ShazamFest stainless-steel travel mugs, available upon arrival. Eco-friendly staples, such as reusable dishware & cutlery, compostable cups, and UNLIMITED free spring water tapped at the source, continue to be the ONLY options available onsite, while various other green initiatives and creative incentives to join the annual post-festival garbage sorting party are back as well. Not to mention that with ALL the stages and structures hand-built with recycled materials or reclaimed wood found on the site, this edition might prove to be the greenest one yet! |
⚡ HEALTH & SAFETY MEASURES ⚡ |
In collaboration with the Estrie Public Health Department, all the necessary health measures have been put in place to ensure everyone’s safety, including the addition of specialized staff for groups of 250 people as per governmental regulations. While precautions have also been implemented at the bar and by all food vendors, festival-goers can still bring their own food and snacks. The ShazamFest team is monitoring the situation closely and updating its measures according to ongoing government advisories. Further info on this year’s COVID-friendly festival procedures will continue to be made available online. |
