A DIVE INTO THE WORLD OF COMPETITIVE TENNIS

WITH ALEX LUTZ, ANA GIRARDOT AND KRISTIN SCOTT THOMAS

IN CINEMAS ON AUGUST 13, 2021

5ÈME SET paints a portrait of a tennis player at the end of his career who has never been able to show his full potential. The film premiered at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival in 2020.

Once considered the next great one in tennis, Thomas never knew the career he seemed destined for. At the age of 37, he decided to take up a final challenge, the Roland Garros tournament, despite his poor physical form and a serious knee injury. Ignoring the advice of his wife and mother, Thomas persists in persevering. He will have to face his own demons in addition to the intense competition of the qualifying events to get to the tournament, where he will meet a disturbing young tennis prodigy who reminds him of his own beginnings.

Quentin Reynaud brings a documentary aspect to his film since he knows his subject particularly well, having himself played tennis at a high level for some time. The first feature film to have been shot at Roland-Garros, 5ÈME SET pays tribute to the world of tennis and its players. Alex Lutz’s play, particularly physical, required a lot of practice: the actor trained four hours a day for four months to deliver this performance.
