SAVE THE DATE!IMAGE+NATION is Back from November 18–28

In-Cinema & Online Hybrid Edition Adds Encore Week of
Festival Jury and Audience Award Winners

image+nation, Canada’s first LGBT2SQ+ film festival and pioneering platform of queer stories, goes hybrid across Quebec for its 34th edition from November 18th to 28th with a roster of in-cinema and virtual screenings to offer loyal and new audiences a taste of the best and brightest queer cinema of the year.

Proudly welcoming Canada Media Fund as its Festival Presenting Partner this year, image+nation returns to its beloved Cinéma Impérial for numerous in-person screenings of its most exciting films over the 11 days of the fest as well as taking over Centre PHI for its signature Queerment Québec evening. AND (it gets better!) image+nation 34 offers complete film programming virtually on the image+nation platform, including viewing days after the festival with an encore week of jury and audience award winners.

Including over 40 narrative and documentary feature films and 11 compelling shorts programs both in-cinema and online, image+nation 34 yet again offers something for everyone and every cinematic taste through a series of themed focuses: Made au Canada highlighting our best national cinema; First Voices, compelling, creative and courageous queer cinema from lesser heard of countries such as Kosovo, Georgia, Estonia, Serbia, Romania and Turkey; A Question of Gender, features, docs and shorts teasing out the nuances of identity and gender; R/evolution: the Vanguard, a documentary series running the gamut from (until now) forgotten queer women of rock, the rise and flourish of the rebel dyke movement in the U.K., explorations of early drag culture in NYC in the 50s, queer lives and living in Fascist Italy and the untold story of one of Microsoft’s founders who, as a gay man in the early 90s, dedicated much of his philanthropic energy to infuse the AIDS awareness campaigns and fundraising campaigns. Rounding it all out are spotlights on Italian queer cinema in Focus Italy, and Focus France, which continues one of the festival’s key initiatives, to promote and encourage francophone queer voices on a world stage.

Bretten Hannam, Canada 2021, 103 min

A fiery get away from an abusive home sends a Two-Spirit Mi’kmaw teen and his younger half-brother onto the open road and into the Eastern Canadian woods with the help of the charismatic Pasmay, a generous and resourceful companion. Nature as their bedroom. One another as a burgeoning chosen family.

Saturday, 27 November, 8pm at Cinéma Impérial
Heidi Ewing, Mexico/USA 2020, 111 min

The instant chemistry in an underground gay bar between Iván Garcia and Gerardo Zabaleta (embodied by the real-life men in the present and actors Armando Espitia and Christian Vazquez in flashbacks) turns into a harrowing tale of complicated timing and seizing opportunity, which eventually ‘crosses over’ from Puebla, Mexico to New York City.
