The 17th edition of Forum RIDM ended on November 17. In a hybrid format, combining in-person activities and virtual networking, the Forum allowed participants to take part in networking events with documentary professionals both local and from more than a dozen countries, as well as in discussions and workshops on contemporary issues pertaining to the industry.

For some, the event was also an opportunity to receive grants and various types of support to be used in developing their documentary projects. The recipients were announced during a closing ceremony in the presence of the partners and participants.

For the 8th edition of the Talent Lab, presented by Netflix, four prizes were awarded to the following francophone and anglophone participants:

CANAL D SUPPORT, a $10,000 development grant presented by Canal D, went to Isabelle Grignon-Francke for her project L’importance de l’artifice.

OFFICE NATIONAL DU FILM DU CANADA (ONF) SUPPORT, presented by the NFB’s French-language documentary studio, will provide $5,000 in development support to Yza Nouiga for her project Houb.

NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA (NFB) SUPPORT, presented by the English-language NFB studio – Quebec/Atlantic regions, will provide $5,000 in development support to Pascal Huynh for his project Out of the Fog.

CINEGROUND SUPPORT, a $5,000 post-production services package presented by CineGround, was awarded to Eli Jean Tahchi, winner of the Regard sur Montréal 2020 residency offered by the Conseil des arts de Montréal, for his project Night Shift.

For a 4th year, two Talent Lab seats were reserved for emerging Indigenous filmmakers in collaboration with Wapikoni. This year, the reserved seats were offered to Jack Belhumeur and Jazmine Smith.

For a second year, THE REGIONAL PROJECT DEVELOPMENT GRANT was offered with the aim of supporting regional production. This grant, offered by franC doc, and worth $2,000 ($1,000 in monetary contribution and $1,000 in development coaching), was awarded to Charles Duquet for his project La Colère.

The Forum RIDM was a great success thanks to the generosity and the sharing of knowledge of many collaborators, participants, representatives, and industry experts who participated online and in person during the densely-packed professional days.

The 18th edition of Forum RIDM will take place in November 2022.
