When the foxes are gone, things’ll get better
In Foxfinder, crops are failing, food is scarce, and humans believe that foxes are solely responsible for the world’s destruction. In this dystopia, a struggling farming couple is forever changed by the arrival of the foxfinder, a young man sent by the government to hunt the animal down.
Presented for the first time in Canada this January in the theatre of MAI, Foxfinder is a haunting eco-parable exploring climate change and its impact on the psychology of fear and the human need for certainty by multiple award-winning British playwright Dawn King.
“The realization that media, governments, and corporations influence our minds, and therefore our lives, is growing. A worldwide pandemic has also broadened our views on blatant social and environmental injustice and awakened more people to the necessity of rethinking structures that have failed the majority of us. In our current social climate where truth is questionable, Foxfinder helps us understand that the development of our psyche is based on how we choose to see the world in order to make sense of the senselessness. And how enlightening or dangerous that can be.” – Cristina Cugliandro, Director of Foxfinder |
