« PEACE BY CHOCOLATE, DU CHOCOLAT POUR LA PAIX»

Directed by Jonathan Keijser

IN CINEMAS ON MAY 6, 2022

Directed by Jonathan Keijser, this feature film is inspired by the story of a family of Syrian refugees who opened a chocolate factory in Nova Scotia, the Peace by chocolate factory, upon their arrival in Canada.

After seeing his father’s chocolate factory bombed in Syria, Tareq, a young refugee, struggles to adjust to his new life in the small town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He was then caught between his dream of continuing his studies and that of his father to rebuild the family chocolate factory. A film inspired by a true story.

Originally from Nova Scotia, director Jonathan Keijser chose to bring the true story of the Hadhad family to the screen for his first feature film. The filmmaker was touched by the journey of this family who, two years after arriving in Nova Scotia, created a whole new life for themselves in Canada and rebuilt a family chocolate factory, a company that aims to be an international symbol of peace. Starring Hatem Ali, Ayham Abu Ammar, Yara Sabri, Kathryn Kirkpatrick, Mark Hachem, Najla Al-Khamru, and Mark Camacho , PEACE BY CHOCOLATE, DU CHOCOLAT POUR LA PAIX is a sweet film that depicts with kindness and humor the portrait of an inspiring family and its reconstruction on Canadian soil within a welcoming community.
