I mean it is a comedy and the brilliant Teri Garr is in it! Plus Richard Dreyfuss, a young Cynthia Nixon, Jennifer Tilly, Robbie Coltrane, and Michelle Phillips. Need I say more? All this adds up to a decent comedy from 1989.
A million to once chance for a gambler. Insider information about a horse most think is ready for the glue factory is going to win a race. The only one who knows this is Jay Trotter (played by Richard Dreyfuss). Plus fellow cab driver Looney (played by David Johansen). A big win is going to come his way as long as Jay makes the bet. But, after tasting a big win is Jay going to be able to quit while he is ahead?
Upon release of the film, it was raked over the coals by most critics. But subsequently, director Joe Pytka’s film has gone on to be considered a cult classic. Laughs galore to be found here in the film version of the Jay Cronley novel. I mean, what would you expect from a film that features characters with names like Looney, Vibes and Tony Cheeseburger? Oddballs really make for laughs aplenty. You just cannot help it, no matter how cornball it is.
An underrated film with lots of laughs.
