A love letter to the short film form and its heroes:
The unsung heroes of image making, a short film stands at the nexus of storytelling – the germination of ideas meeting the moving image. Shorts are more than calling cards for a director’s first feature film, they represent a moment, a thought, an intricately woven capsule of time. I+N FCQSFF 03 also offers an opportunity to encourage emerging and established storytellers by creating spaces for collaboration, connection and exchange through the image+nation virtual space.
“I+N FCQSFF fulfills a long-standing goal of ours to amplify the exceptional talent that we see in short film submissions each year to image+nation. festival film LGBTQueer Montréal. We believe it’s high time the short form was given the showcase it deserves. I+N FCQSFF is a place for filmmakers and audiences to explore how queer lives – in all their ways of being – are brought to our screens.” – Kat Setzer & Charlie Boudreau – image+nation culture queer |
Bringing together creators for connection and exchange: Season 03 features the culmination of I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines. Over the past six months, I+N StoryLab/ histoires queer contemporaines has connected emerging queer content creators with queer filmmaking and producing mentors from across the country for a storytelling thinktank and short film scriptwriting initiative with the goal to enable these emerging queer filmmakers in bringing their stories to life. The scripts are now done (!) and will be presented through a series of engaging activities with the mentors, mentees and invited producers in the image+nation virtual space during I+N FCQSFF 03. |
I+N FCQSFF standing with Ukraine:
image+nation stands in solidarity with Ukraine – colleagues, cultural creators and the people of Ukraine. Season 03 includes a collaboration with the Kyiv International Short Film Festival (KISFF). Curated by Head Programmer Sasha Prokopenko, this special focus offers a retrospective selection of powerful shorts – of all genres and styles – from KISFF’s vault of Ukrainian and international queer films.
Festival programming also features compelling tales and creative visions:

Indeed, there is something for everyone!
A focus on growth and accessibility: I+N FCQSFF’s dedication to elevating and promoting the talents of the short filmmaking community is reflected in its diverse programming and production. Multiple networking activities offer emerging professionals the opportunity to connect to a broader audience thus igniting a growth in local and global film industries. Through its “pay what you can” policy, the festival successfully reimagines the traditional film festival experience by creating an affordable and accessible environment where short filmmakers and their works can be thoroughly supported and celebrated by ALL. |
