Xn Québec, the Association des producteurs d’expériences numériques, announced the 90 finalist projects that make up the 2022 vintage of the 13th NUMIX AWARDS, the winners of which will be announced at a festive and unifying gala on Tuesday, May 24 at L’Olympia in Montreal. In parallel with the Gala and for the first time, Xn Québec invites the public to discover the finalist projects during an ambulatory tour on May 24 at the Olympia, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.: XR, web series, video games and interactive installations will be on the program of this one-hour trail that will allow the public to discover the best of this year’s digital creativity.
The finalists of the 13th edition
For its 2022 edition, the competition received a record number of applications: no less than 300 projects were evaluated by 12 juries and 3 special committees, each composed of three professionals with complementary expertise, under the co-chairmanship of Sébastien Ebacher, executive producer of the video game studio Smilegate Barcelona and Laetitia Bochud, Managing Director of Virtual Switzerland.
“I warmly congratulate all the designers who have been nominated for the NUMIX AWARDS 2022: you have frankly complicated our selection task. The quality, originality and richness of the projects submitted pushed our jurors to rigorous analyses, sharp exchanges and sometimes heartbreaking choices. Indeed, it is very difficult to preserve our duty of objectivity when projects come to get us right in the heart! I would also like to thank the juries for their professionalism, energy and rigour. Together, they accomplished a huge task and it was a real privilege to participate in their exchanges. Next up: the unveiling of the winners, on May 24 at the Olympia!” says Sébastien Ebacher
“Digital creation is enriched every year with narrative formats and proposals, the most touching of which amplify current events, history, or are intimate narratives inviting us to better understand each other. There are some trends: expanded formats that are getting longer, multifaceted and transdisciplinary experiences, collaborations and intensified productions. Art has always reached out to the viewer, to the visitor, to the listener. Thanks to new technologies, borders are blurring… and the magic of digital is working.” says Laetitia Bochud.
In order to reflect the industry and its evolution, the categories of the competition are renewed every year. For this 13th edition, two new categories were introduced: immersive sound courses and experiences, as well as augmented reality games. Both categories join podcasts, web series, XR experiences, site-specific installations and digital arts among the award-winning categories at the Gala. Finally, it should be noted that for a second consecutive year, seven categories were open to international producers.
