LE CHEVALIER ERRANT – L’HOMME SANS ICI

The walking epic of a knight wandering on the Chemin du Roy

June 17-26

A PERFORMANCE BY ABRAHAM POINCHEVAL

The multidisciplinary French artist Abraham Poincheval will be in Quebec to perform his work Chevalier Errant from June 17 to 26, 2022. A first for the artist, which will lead him to connect Montreal to Quebec City by walking on the Chemin du Roy. It is therefore on foot that this unarmed knight dressed in armour moulded to his body and dating from the fourteenth century will bring his work to the landscapes of the twenty-first century, travelling no less than 280 kilometres.

The travelling exhibition, which runs along the route of New France will take place over a period of nine days and will be dotted with stops in some of the most beautiful places along this road. This pedestrian journey requires a total commitment of the artist’s body, adept at extreme performances, while the steel envelope he will wear will serve as a vehicle and cockpit for this 280-kilometre journey.

The nomadic work, which crosses many territories and brings art to the street, will begin on June 17 in Montreal at 11 a.m. from La Fonderie Darling and conclude on June 26 in Quebec City, at the Le Lieu centre, a centre en art actuel, where an exhibition sharing the journey will be presented in the form of drawings, videos and fragments of texts. The armour at rest will also be on display. Throughout the walk, the public will be invited to join the artist to accompany him and participate in this tableau vivant. Nine stops are planned on this route along the St. Lawrence River, connecting Montreal to the provincial capital.

The cities/stops will be:

  • Repentigny – Galerie d’art Diane Dufresne/June 17
  • Lanoraie – JP the General of the VR/June 18
  • Saint-Barthélemy – Auto-Poconnier/June 19
  • Yamachiche – Vignoble et Domaine Beauchemin/June 20
  • Trois-Rivières – Atelier Silex/June 21
  • Batiscan – Restaurant Le P’tit Relais/June 22

Multidisciplinary artist and insatiable explorer, the internationally renowned Frenchman Abraham Poincheval will realize his unusual public art performance in Quebec, after having been the subject of exhibitions and performances in France and internationally, such as Pierre et Œuf in 2017 at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, or Ours in 2014 at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris. The artist will thus trace his next live performance on the Chemin du Roy, between Montreal and the National Capital.
