ABORTION RIGHTS DOCUMENTARY BATTLEGROUND
WORLD PREMIERED AT TRIBECA FESTIVAL 2022
DAYS BEFORE THE SUPREME COURT
ANNOUNCED IT WILL OVERTURN ROE V WADE

Subsequent to the breaking news that the Supreme Court has voted to reverse the landmark Roe V. Wade decision and the follow up case, Planned Parenthood V. Casey, affecting millions of Americans, Cynthia Lowen’s new documentary “Battleground,” which premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Festival, has become required viewing for anyone with a stake in the future of a woman’s right to choose.

“Battleground”, which could not be timelier or more prescient, offers a staggering, eye-opening window into the anti-abortion movement’s single-minded quest to overturn Roe V. Wade by following three women who lead formidable anti-abortion organizations as they face down forces equally determined to safeguard women’s access to safe and legal abortions.  If the question is, ‘” How have we arrived here?”, Cynthia Lowen’s “Battleground” has the answers.

At a recent panel discussion in early June, following the film’s world premiere screening at Tribeca Festival, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund Alexis McGill Johnson spoke of “Battleground” as a defining film for what is happening at this moment.  McGill Johnson stated, “[The anti-abortion movement are] willing to forgo traditional norms around how power and checks and balances operate in a democracy. That is the thing we need to be most afraid of. That is the reason why we have to see this film. I can’t think of anything more fascist right now than taking complete control over someone’s body. And that is exactly what they said in this film – your body is not your own.”

“Battleground” is directed by Cynthia Lowen and produced by Rebecca Stern and Lowen. The film is Executive produced by Jeff Sobrato, Dexter Braff, Nicole Shipley, Ryan Harrington and Ruth Ann Harnisch, and is represented for sales by Cinetic.
