26TH EDITION FROM JULY 14 TO AUGUST 3, 2022 

The Fantasia International Film Festival, whose 26th edition will take place from July 14 to August 3, 2022, has announced the selection of the Fantastiques weekends du cinéma québécois. This year, the Festival’s section dedicated to local cinema will present 11 feature films, including UN ÉTÉ COMME ÇA, Denis Côté’s latest production, nearly 80 short films, and, for the first time, the second season of Maude Morissette’s La Dump web series with the voices of  Laurent Paquin, Anaïs Favron, Édith Cochrane, Yves P Pelletier and Léane Labrèche-Dor.

6 FEATURE FILMS TO PREMIERE AT THE Cinéma du Musée

During this edition, the Fantastiques week-ends du cinéma québécois will premiere several feature films at the Cinéma du Musée. Festival-goers will be able to discover UN ÉTÉ COMME ÇA, Denis Côté’s latest production featuring Larissa Corriveau (Répertoire des villes disparues) alongside Laure Giappiconi (La Douleur), Anne Ratte Polle (Undine), Samir Guesmi (Ibrahim) and Aude Mathieu. For his fourteenth feature film presented at the Berlinale this year, the filmmaker explores sexuality through female characters. Spectators will also be able to see PUNTA SINISTRA, a new feature film by Renaud Gauthier, a regular at Fantasia (DISCOPATHE, AQUASPLASH). It will be presented as part of a double bill with LA GUÊPE, Marc Beaupré’s first production. The public will also be able to see THAT THE FAN IS WITH TOI, a documentary by Marc Joly-Corcoran that follows three fans of the Star Wars franchise over a period of five years. Its presentation will be paired with Raphaël Hébert’s short BRIGHTSTAR, an ambitious film by Quebec Star Wars fans. Also on the program: LES PAS D’ALLURE by Alexandre Leblanc, whose screening will be paired with David Émond-Ferrat’s horror short IN THE SHADOW, in which a small group of activists try to bring down a popular garbage radio station that uses its waves to control the minds of the population; THE DIABETIC by Mitchell Stafiej, shot in 16mm in which a young thirty-year-old returns to his Montreal suburbs to relive the simplicity of his youth as well as the family genre film TIMESCAPE by Aristomenis Tsirbas.

THE SECOND SEASON OF THE DUMP PRESENTED IN WORLD PREMIERE

Fantasia will premiere the second season of LA DUMP, a web series written and directed by Maude Morissette: Laurent Paquin, Anaïs Favron, Édith Cochrane, Yves Pelletier and Léane Labrèche-Dor lend their voices to a family of dysfunctional puppets who have been living in the sewers of our sewers since their expulsion from the United States for public disorder.

NEARLY 80 SHORT FILMS PRESENTED

This year the Fantastic Weekends will present 7 screenings of short programs at the Cinéma du Musée. Spectators will be able to discover several shorts that have distinguished themselves in the festival circuit in recent months such as LA MAIN GAUCHE by Maxime Robin (Cannes Film Festival) or, even, L’AUTRE RIVE by Gaëlle Gratton (Festival REGARD). In addition, the Fantastiques weekends du cinéma québécois are also very pleased to renew their partnership with the animation department of the CÉGEP du Vieux Montréal, which will present 11 animated shorts. In addition, Fantasia will once again reward local talent with cash grants, equipment loans and visibility thanks to the support of its valued partners: the Association des Réalisateurs et Réalisatrices du Québec (ARRQ), the Bureau du Cinéma et de la Télévision du Québec, the Canadian Cinema Editors /Monteurs et Monteuses de cinéma canadien/C.C.E.), the Animation Cinema Department of the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, Entreprises Vidéo Service (EVS), INIS, MAtv, SLA Location, Spira and the Union des Artistes.

GENRES OF THE COUNTRY BACK AT THE CINÉMATHÈQUE QUÉBÉCOISE

The Fantastiques weekends will allow the public to discover a series of works restored at the Cinémathèque Québécoise through the Genres du pays section. Fantasia will present three feature films produced by Pierre David: BINGO, in collaboration with Éléphant: mémoire du cinéma québécois, and VISITING HOURS directed by Jean-Claude Lord as well as a rare 35 mm copy of Marcel Lefebvre’s MUSTANG. The festival will present the Denis-Héroux  Award to Pierre David to highlight the producer’s exceptional contribution to the development of genre and independent cinema in Quebec. Finally, Fantasia will allow festival-goers to discover the world premiere of a restored version of CAMIL Adam’s MANETTE OU LES DIEUX DE CARTON presented in collaboration with Éléphant; as well as Louis Saia’s LES DANGEREUSE which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year during a screening in the presence of the film’s team.

TWO CAREER AWARDS TO BE PRESENTED TO ROLAND SMITH AND JEAN-PIERRE TADROS

The Fantasia festival will take the opportunity to present two special career awards: one to Roland Smith for his exceptional contribution to the dissemination of the seventh art in Quebec, and the other to Jean-Pierre Tadros, founder of the CTVM, a reference site for Quebec audiovisual professionals to highlight an exceptional contribution to the promotion of the seventh art and its industry.
