DISCO IS MOVING INTO THE VILLAGE THIS SUMMER!

The Société de développement commercial (SDC) du Village and the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership have unveiled the Village’s distinctive new signature look: Mille facettes. The project  invites the public to experience a disco in the great outdoors! Designed by MASSIVart and Sid Lee Architecture, the installations will be deployed this summer as part of the  Moments du cœur de l’île. They will contribute to the effervescence, dynamism and attractiveness of the Village, the inclusive quartier of Montreal.

By the end of July, sixty one-metre in diameter disco balls will be deployed on Sainte-Catherine Street East, between Saint-Hubert Street and Papineau Avenue, creating a huge dance and glitter floor. Then, on Sainte-Catherine Street East, between Atateken and Wolfe Streets, a huge dome, Geodesic Disco, will make the new Place du Village shine from the beginning of August.

These transitional facilities are part of a new three-year plan developed with all the partners to make the sector vibrant this summer and for the next two years. The redevelopment of the spaces and Sainte-Catherine Street East will allow the deployment of future distinctive perennial facilities that will be unveiled later.

“I am proud of the mobilization of all the actors who, this year, have been involved so that signature installations are installed in the Village. The projects announced will highlight the emblematic character of the artery, pending its future redevelopment. Supporting its commercial and tourism dynamism, as well as the quality of life of the sector, is a priority for our Administration,” said Robert Beaudry, Councillor of the City of Saint-Jacques.

“We have been able to count on the expertise and collaboration of dedicated partners to realize the Village’s vision through developments that meet its uniqueness as well as the needs of its communities, merchants, residents and visitors. The arrival of a giant disco dome in the heart of the Village is a privileged gathering place to host a variety of programs, but we also hope that it will become a gathering place from which all will benefit. Whether it’s lounging with a book, eating your takeaway meal from a local business or getting together with friends before an outing in the Village, everyone will be able to add their own disco colour to Sainte-Catherine Street East! ” added Gabrielle Rondy, Executive Director of the Société de développement commercial (SDC) du Village – Village Montréal.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with the Société de développement commercial du Village and support the attractiveness and dynamism of the east end of downtown. Located at the gates of the Quartier des spectacles, the Village is part of a hub in full effervescence. These installations created by local artists perfectly reflect the diversity of the neighbourhood and offer a unique look to the Village. I invite all Montrealers and visitors to take advantage of Mille facettes and the animation to experience disco fever and a most festive moment!” said Monique Simard, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.
