15th edition of Expo World Press Photo Montréal
At Bonsecours Market, from August 31 to October 2, 2022
The Expo World Press Photo Montréal team announced that artist Caroline Monnet will be the spokesperson for its 15th edition, which will take place at the Bonsecours Market, from August 31 to October 2. The artist will present the Ikwewak (Women) exhibition in world premiere, in parallel with the winning photos of the most prestigious international professional photography competition. A big comeback for the emblematic cultural event of the Montreal back-to-school season, after two years of absence.
Women, by Caroline Monnet
“Femmes is a series of photographs featuring First Nations women who are freeing themselves from the European historical gaze by reshaping their biased representation in the collective consciousness,” explains Caroline Monnet. The artist adds: ” Femmes is part of a series of photographic and video works presenting the Indigenous woman in her splendour, eccentricity, elegance, pride and charisma. In Femmes, I take a look at my generation that wants to transpose itself positively into the future, relying on tradition, while taking its rightful place in society. There is a sense of excitement for the future that we will build together for the next seven generations.”
