Close the hatches and get ready for battle, as the kings of Viking heavy metal, Amon Amarth, announce that they will set sail for the U.S. coast this fall for what will undoubtedly be the death metal assault of the year. The Great Heathen Tour, produced by Live Nation, will wreak havoc across North America in November and December, decimating 27 cities in the process. The tour will conclude with a special concert at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, where Amon Amarth will bring his entire European production and become the first death metal band to headline in this famous arena.

Amon Amarth will be accompanied on his epic quest by CarcassObituary and Cattle Decapitation, confirming that this is  *the* must-see tour for death metal fans. Tickets are on sale Friday, July 15, 2022.

Commenting on the announcement, Amon Amarth says :

“North America! The great pagan army will attack your lands this fall! We’ve been away for a long time, but now it’s time to meet you at the death metal event of the year! We will ignite cities across the continent with our comrades Carcass, Obituary and Cattle Decapitation. We are preparing a gigantic concert that you will not soon forget. Miss this appointment at your own risk… »

Jeff Walker of Carcass adds :

“Carcass is looking forward to its first true North American tour in… Six years??? Has it been so long? We couldn’t imagine a more fantastic tour to take part in… It’s going TO HURT! »

Obituary states :

“We are excited to participate in this tour! When our good friends Amon Amarth asked Obituary to join their North American tour, we didn’t hesitate, it was an automatic yes! It’s an honour to share the stage and a few cold beers with them again, in addition to our longtime Carcass accomplices and San Diego brothers, Cattle Decapitation! If this line-up doesn’t turn you on, check your pulse, as you’re probably dead! »

Cattle Decapitation adds:

“We are thrilled to be back on the road in North America, especially with so many great bands! It will be an extraordinary tour, and quite an honour to play every night with these legends! »

Armed with their 12th — and possibly best — album to date, Amon Amarth is about to return to touring with more ardour than ever. The release of the new album « The Great Heathen Army » will mark the start of another tireless global campaign, first with a European tour with Machine Head and The Halo Effect, then across the Atlantic, in North America, where Amon Amarth’s warriors will be carried by Odin himself’s squalls.
« The Great Heathen Army » will launch on Friday, August 5, 2022 via Metal Blade Records. Including 9 songs, the disc is available for pre-order HERE. The band has shared two clips so far: “Get In The Ring ”, which is the official introductory music of AEW star wrestler Erick Redbeard, which can also be seen in the music video; and “The Great Heathen Army ”, a song with an incredible music video inspired by Stranger Things, shot in Latvia by Pavel Trebukhin.

From pole to pole and from coast to coast, the members of Amon Amarth are the kings of Viking heavy metal. Formed in Tumba, Sweden, in 1992, the band has established itself over three decades with its thunderous metal anthems, which draw on the rich imagery of Viking history, folklore and culture.
From his first underground album, “Once Sent From The Golden Hall” (1998), Amon Amarth proved to be an inexhaustible artistic force. The quintet’s distinctive sound combines several types of epic metal, highlighted on records such as the acclaimed “Twilight Of The Thunder God ” (2008) and the triumphant concept album “Jomsviking ” (2016). Swedish musicians make heavy metal an inspiring collective experience, especially during their theatrical concerts where they play their countless classics.
Now reaping the fruits of all these years of hard work, Amon Amarth is considered one of the most important formations of the metal scene. The band has headlined several festivals in Europe, in addition to participating in Slayer’s farewell tour of the United States in 2019. Like their Viking ancestors, they regularly go on adventures to bring their music all over the world.
Unfortunately, when the planet was paralyzed in early 2020, Amon Amarth had to interrupt his popular world tour, which was promoting the album “Berserker ”. Disappointed, but unwavering, the band decided to return to the studio to record their most brutal and heroic album to date, “The Great Heathen Army ”.

One of the most beloved metal bands on the planet, Amon Amarth is always looking to surpass himself. Recorded with the brilliant Andy Sneap on console, “The Great Heathen Army” is a bold new high for musicians, whose sound has evolved once again, as have their lyrics. From the thrilling “Find A Way Or Make One ” and the pugilistic “Get In The Ring ” to the furious “Saxons & Vikings” and the cinematic title track, “The Great Heathen Army ” captures the essence of this mythical group, which is still brimming with new ideas.
