The 26th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival concluded yesterday with the presentation, in its North American premiere, of NEXT SOHEE by Korean director July Jung. The Festival announced that the event was a great public success by reaching its objectives with more than 75,000 spectators despite the resurgence of a 7th wave of COVID 19 in Montreal. The decision made to return to theatres has therefore been successful for the Festival, which also welcomed a contingent of more than 200 guests and international media.
This year, Fantasia presented more than 130 features and 200 shorts at the SGWU Graduate Auditorium – Concordia University’s Hall Theater, Concordia University’s J.A. de Sève room, the Cinéma du Musée and the Cinémathèque québécoise among which was to be found many premieres and sold out screenings. To be highlighted among others: the opening film of the Cannes Film Festival COUPEZ! by Michel Hazanavicius, BODIES, BODIES, BODIES by Halina Rejin starring Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Maria Bakalova (Borat) and comedian Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live), MY BROKEN MARIKO by Yuki Tanada, SHIN ULTRAMAN by Shinji Higuchi or the Canadian film POLARIS by KC Carthew, presented ats the opening film.

The 27th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival will return to Montreal next summer.
