IMMERSIVE INSTALLATION AND AERIAL DANCE
Hanging gardens, from August 25 to 28 to the Peace Square in the Quartier des spectacles. Created by artistic directors and choreographers Claire Jeannot and Geneviève Lauzon, this interdisciplinary work is made up of two components: an immersive day installation and an evening contemporary and aerial dance performance. The creators approach the human connection and propose a meeting of the other through the sharing and poetry of the movement.
First, a tree woven of clothing stands in the center of the square and invites you to drop off and stroll through its vines. Colourful and fascinating, the installation comes to life through the presence of the public, which triggers an audio narration of various testimonies about the encounter. This ephemeral universe stems from cultural mediation workshops carried out this summer, where participants collectively reflected on the emotions and sensations generated by human social contact. What makes an encounter meaningful in our lives? How, through non-verbal language, do we communicate with others? The public is invited to listen, while the creators give the floor to about forty citizens of various ages and socio-cultural backgrounds.
Then, for two free performances at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., characters awaken in the four corners of the square. Through the movement of the performers, a communication system develops and links are forged on both sides in a microcosm that is both regular and offbeat. Spectators become accomplices in this 360-degree work, where connections are built by playing with gravity.
