In Scenes from the Underground, newly translated from Les carnets de l’underground, a Montreal club kid getting his Ph.D. in medieval studies travels from the Mile End neighbourhood of Montreal to Berlin and Manhattan with stops in New York, Miami and Paris. His journey leads him through the bathrooms and dark rooms of clubs and raves, exploring gender identity, relationships and the anonymous sex, drugs and techno music that define the gay nightlife. Here, dubious decisions and intimate connections go hand in hand. Provocative and contemporary, Scenes from the Underground is a stunning portrait of the Instagram generation.
This month’s edition of Violet Hour will take place outdoors at Place du Village (the park situated on Ste. Catherine Street East, corner Wolfe) and features Gabriel Cholette, Neil Smith, Su J. Sokol and others. Hosted by Christopher DiRaddo, showtime is 6 pm, Wed. Oct. 5.
