present Desvío de noche (Night Detour), the first feature film written and directed by Ariane Falardeau St-Amour and Paul Chotel, a sensory enigma made of heat and ice that takes us to a small village in Mexico. After its world premiere at the Marseille Festival of Documentary Film, it was selected for the 51st edition of Festival du nouveau cinéma where it will be screened as a North American premiere, in the national competition.

A first screening will take place on Thursday, October 13, at 7 p.m. at Cinéma du Parc in its original version with French subtitles, with the filmmakers in attendance. A second screening is scheduled on Friday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Cinéma Moderne, in its original version with English subtitles.


In the midst of a snowstorm
, a journalist dives back into the memories of her most recent investigation. Following the sudden eclipse of star figure skater Violeta Martínez, the journalist travels to Violeta’s hometown, a tropical village on the West Coast of Mexico. There she encounters an intricate labyrinth of clues and wrong paths, surreal tales and enigmatic characters. As the story deviates and plunges into the night. A world fades into another.

Ariane Falardeau St-Amour is a Montreal director, cinematographer and producer. In 2018, she produced and shot her first feature film, Mad Dog Labine (2018), which won the Grand Prix Focus Québec/Canada at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema, and the Gilles-Carle prize at the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma. In 2020 she co-directed and shot her first feature film, Desvío de noche (Night Detour).


Born in Paris, Paul Chotel graduated from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in 2015.  He has since been involved in a multitude of projects as a writer, editor, director and producer. He recently co-wrote and co-produced Foam (2020) which premiered at the 70th Berlinale Shorts and was selected in TIFF Canada’s Top Ten. Desvío de noche (Night Detour) is his first feature film as a writer and director.
