Since 2009, the SIGHT+SOUND Festival has showcased outstanding and critical works of digital art from around the globe. After a successful, yet 100% web-based 2021 edition, the festival is making its return entirely in person. For this 12th edition, SIGHT+SOUND is spreading out more than ever throughout Montreal. From the north-west to the south-east of the island, the festival route includes venues located within walking distance on each side of the Saint-Laurent boulevard. This is one of the most ambitious and exciting editions of the festival ever produced by Eastern Bloc.
SIGHT+SOUND’s 2022 programming has three core elements: a public exhibition, daily panels and workshops, and our famous late-night sound and art performances. The performances, workshops, and panels run from October 27th to 30th, while the exhibition will open with the festival launch on October 26th and runs up until November 12th. This edition’s one of a kind and decentralized programming offers a unique and electrifying way to celebrate the Halloween weekend.
The lineup for SIGHT+SOUND 2022: Dancing While Waiting (for the End of the World) was conceived and thoughtfully designed by guest renowned curators Nathalie Bachand and Sarah Ève Tousignant.
Bringing together works that play on a duality between festive and critical dimensions—whether they be performances, installations, augmented reality, sound or video works, Dancing While Waiting (For the End of the World) brings together proposals exploring the idea of reappropriating the social space that has been undermined over the past two years. If the hazards of our world and its occasional catastrophes can weaken what we take for granted, we can nevertheless take a step aside, then another, review the sequence and reshape the movement, rethink the choreography that is ours—dance again the existence together and participate in the movement of the world.
