Following the release of his single “Opening the Sky”, Toronto folk Julian Taylor will release his new album Beyond the Reservoir on October 14th.
With a 25 years career, 12 albums and EPs, as well as multiple awards under his belt, Toronto-based singer-songwriter Julian Taylor continues his rise through the ranks of the Canadian music scene. Following the release of The Ridge in 2020 and several singles, including “Opening the sky” last month, Taylor returns with an opus of 9 deeply personal compositions.
As The Ridge is a record about childhood, Beyond the Reservoir is a record about the passage from adulthood and the divination of spirituality. Sometimes dark, the album also includes joyful tracks like “Moonlight”. It’s also worth mentioning by name “Wide Awake”, the forward-looking reverie about embracing family experiences. The album’s denouement culminates with its uplifting final acoustic track entitled “Opening the Sky”.
The album was co-produced by Julian Taylor and his long-time partner and collaborator Saam Hashemi (Snoop Dog, Ludacris, The Kooks), and was mixed by Hashemi. It was recorded at three studios -Canterbury, Saam’s Place and The Woodshed (owned by Blue Rodeo). This latter is also the studio where The Ridge originated. On this album, Taylor wants to bring people closer to their own humanity.
