Depeche Mode Announces First Shows in Five Years
“Memento Mori” World Tour Kicks Off March 23, 2023 in Sacramento, California
MONTREAL – APRIL 12, 2023 – BELL CENTRE
Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, Depeche Mode announced at a special event in Berlin that they will be touring the world in 2023. The Memento Mori tour will promote the band’s 15th studio album, Memento Mori, which will be released in spring 2023.
Dave Gahan and Martin Gore revealed today that Live Nation’s tour will kick off by starting with a limited series of special concerts in North American arenas starting March 23, before the band travels to Europe to play in stadiums during the summer. Shows in North America will include stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Chicago’s United Center, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, among others. The band will launch their European tour on May 16, which will visit Paris’s France Stadium, Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, Milan’s San Siro Stadium, and London’s Twickenham Stadium. Of Memento Mori, Martin Gore says: “We started this project at the beginning of the pandemic, which directly inspired our writing. After Fletch’s death, we decided to persevere, because we were convinced that this is what he would have wanted. This made the project even more meaningful. Dave Gahan adds: “Fletch would have loved this album. We look forward to sharing it with you soon, and we look forward to bringing it to the stage at next year’s concerts.»
The Memento Mori tour will be Depeche Mode’s 19th and the band’s first in over five years. The previous one was the Global Spirit tour in 2017-2018, the band’s longest to date, and one of the most lucrative tours of that year. Depeche Mode had played in front of more than 3 million fans over 130 concerts across Europe and North America.
Memento Mori will be Depeche Mode’s 15th studio album, succeeding Spirit (2017), which was critically acclaimed and rose to the top of the charts in 11 territories and in the Top 5 in twenty others. Memento Mori will launch globally in spring 2023 via Columbia Records.
Having sold more than 100 million records and played in front of more than 35 million fans around the world, Depeche Mode remains an influential and constantly evolving musical force. An eternal inspiration for fans, critics and other artists, Depeche Mode continues to race into the future. The Memento Mori album and tour represent the latest chapter in an unparalleled epic that continues.
