After a busy year of new projects, audience growth, and accolades, CJLO 1690AM has announced its annual Funding Drive in late October, complete with special programming and, for the first time since 2019, in-person events.
Taking its theme from the Stevie Wonder song “Livin’ for the City”, from October 20 to 31, CJLO listeners and supporters will be able to enjoy crossover episodes of beloved programs, documentaries on important albums celebrating anniversaries, spirited debates on the best albums to come out of Montreal, and more unique Funding Drive special programming.
Throughout the 12 days, donors can receive a new t-shirt, hoodies, and even a power bank with this year’s artwork and slogan in return for their generous donations. Supporters looking to support CJLO 1690AM can also receive a charitable tax receipt if they donate via Concordia University Advancement.
This has been such an exciting year for CJLO 1690AM,” said Station Manager Francella Fiallos. “We’ve completed a one-of-a-kind, innovative digital project in Mapping Montreal Music, seen our audience grow, and been voted Montreal’s favourite radio station by the readers of Cult Montreal! This year’s funding drive – that sees us return to the live arena with a suite of great events, will enable us to take on new projects and challenges, and is only possible with our incredible listenership supporting us.
To round out the programming, the CJLO team presents four in-person events in support of the Funding Drive.
- Introduction to DJing: A Workshop for Gender Minorities | Saturday, October 22, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, CJLO 1690AM, Concordia University Loyola Campus, 7141 Sherbrooke Qest
- CJLO Trivia Night | Monday, October 24, 8:30 PM, Ye Olde Orchard, 1189 rue de la Montagne

- CJLO Vinyl Fair | Saturday, October 29, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, 9th Floor of the John Molson School of Business, Sir George William Campus, Concordia University
In addition to the in-person events, CJLO 1690AM will be holding workshops for new volunteers, including one workshop in conjunction with the Student Success Centre at Concordia University led by Vocal Fry founder and producer Katie Jensen.
CJLO 1690AM’s Funding Drive comes after their launch of the Mapping Montreal Music project and accompanying iPhone app as well as securing the number one spot as Montreal’s Best Radio Station in the Cult MTL Best of Montreal Readers’ Poll.
Donations will go to sustaining operations at CJLO 1690AM in order to create more innovative programming and projects, funding student positions, and purchasing cutting-edge equipment and software.
