BACH: VIOLIN & VOICE
The OCM Welcomes Kerson Leong & Dominique Labelle
For its second concert of the season, the Orchestre Classique de Montréal (OCM) is presenting virtuoso works by Johann Sebastian Bach for violin and voice. Under the baton of Geneviève Leclair, the OCM will welcome the young Canadian violinist of international renown Kerson Leong for Concertos No. 1 and No. 2, as well as the excellent Montreal soprano Dominique Labelle in the sublime Wedding Cantata. The OCM will also present the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3. The concert will take place on Tuesday, November 15, at 7:30 pm, at the Salle Pierre-Mercure of the Center Pierre-Péladeau. New this season: with the purchase of an adult ticket audience members get free access for a child 12 years and under.
“As a recorder player, the baroque repertoire is like a return to my first love. I can’t wait to collaborate with Kerson Leong and Dominique Labelle, but also to dive into the Brandenburg Concerto, one of the first works for which I owned a CD in my youth” says conductor Geneviève Leclair.

Kerson Leong has been described by the Toronto Star as “not just one of Canada’s greatest violinists, but one of the greatest violinists in the world.” In 2010, at the age of 13, the virtuoso won first prize at the prestigious International Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition. Since then, his evolution has been meteoric. He notably stood out as an artist in residence in 2018-2019 with the Orchestre Métropolitain and regularly performs on the biggest international stages. Christophe Huss, from Le Devoir, describes his rise as follows: “The violinist Kerson Leong has succeeded in the difficult transformation of a young prodigy into a major artist. »
Soprano Dominique Labelle is a great Montreal singer who has distinguished herself internationally for more than 25 years working with great conductors and orchestras worldwide. During her appearance with Opera Lafayette in 2019, the Washington Post said these words about her performance: “Expressively and artistically: a master”. Since 2014, she has been sharing her great talent and knowledge with young singers at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University.
