Coalition M·É·D·I·A· Launches its Call for Applications for the “Formation entrepreneuriale M·É·D·I·A· | La base HEC” Training Program
Coalition M·É·D·I·A· launches its call for applications for Formation entrepreneuriale M·É·D·I·A· | La base HEC. This intensive training program will be held over 6 (six) days from January 23 to 28, 2023, and will continue through June 2023 as a series of follow-up meetings and personalized support sessions. The training will provide 20 (twenty) francophone Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and racialized producers working in Quebec and Canada’s audiovisual industries, with an enriching opportunity. The cohort will take part in a learning experience focused on, among other things, strategic planning, political acumen, and the international market.
This program aims to equip, support, and drive the next generation of Francophone Canadian audiovisual entrepreneurs and is designed to meet their needs related to ongoing issues of under-representation in the Quebec and Canadian media environments.
This initiative was born of, and will take place within, a context where professionals from underrepresented communities face a variety of barriers to access in the audiovisual industry. The obstacles confronting these professionals include insufficient funding, difficulty networking, a lack of access to the decision-makers at broadcasters and funding providers, and even a noticeable reticence to engage with their stories and projects.
“The new year marks a very important jumping-off point for Coalition M·É·D·I·A·. We’re thrilled to finally be able to welcome the very first cohort for this training, which has been in the making for a year now! We took the time to bring together an entire ecosystem of partners and adapt the content to changing realities within the environment. It’s through social-transformation projects like this that we’ll change the face of the country’s audiovisual industry,” said Patrice Jecrois (Executive Director, Coalition M·É·D·I·A·)
Participants will benefit from:
- an intensive two-part training program that includes both entrepreneurship (in partnership with La Base entrepreneuriale HEC Montréal) and internationalization
- masterclasses, case studies, and conferences with world-class professionals
- networking sessions with renowned industry professionals
- 5 (five) months of one-on-one support from experienced professionals, and
- monthly virtual M·É·D·I·A· en action meetings that will assemble the participants, board of directors, and mentors, to forge a community
Several industry players will come together to create a one-of-a-kind learning process. This program stands apart thanks to the strength of its support network, its access to the creative genius and knowledge of top national and international talent, and the connections it will forge—which will last well after training is over.
