Vancouver producer/songwriter Louise Burns is returning with her brand new single, a take on Depeche Mode’s classic ‘See You’ single of the same name, slated 4th November 2022 via Light Organ Records. The track precedes Burns’ upcoming fifth solo album, ‘Element’, which is due to be released in the spring of 2023.
Burns’ rendition of the 80’s single reworks the peppy, electro-pop anthem, with her version of the song a drastically slowed down interpretation in the form of a contemporary and hypnotic slow jam. Burns’ velvet vocals are accompanied by psychedelic synth beats, a nod to the original 1982 synth-ridden song and channelling a mixture of Depeche Mode and Kate Bush.
Mesmerizing and otherworldly, the single sees the acclaimed Vancouver producer-songwriter at her most sophisticated and refined. Her pending fifth album ‘Element’ encompasses the notion of “holding your head high as you tunnel out of the emotional wreckage of life as we know it”. According to Burns, there is nothing more radical than being joyful despite what you’re going through.
Speaking of the new single, Burns said, “What I love about Depeche Mode is that they have that acoustic song test down. You can take any song of theirs and play it on guitar, and it’s beautiful. I wanted to take a song that would work no matter what I did with it, and just have fun. I wasn’t really thinking about anything other than what sounded best in the moment. Like, ‘let’s lean into those Enya vocal influences; let’s take the most sleek and clean sounding guitar tone we can get; let’s put bongos in it – fuck it, you know?’”
Of the album as a whole, Burns notes, “Element is a pop album for introverts. A soundtrack to accompany a trip into one’s inner world when the outside one isn’t cutting it.”
Burns’ fifth full-length album ‘Element’ was primarily co-produced between Burns and Jason Corbett (ACTORS) at his Jacknife Studios in Vancouver, and also features collaborations with Colin Janz (Teset) and vocologist Carol-Lynne Quinn. The nine-strong track album was pieced together over a two-and-a-half-year span between Burns’ home and Mexico.
Louise Burns’ new single ‘See You’ will be available on 4th November 2022, followed by the release of her album ‘Element’ scheduled for Spring 2023.
