SEASON TWO OF THE MIDNIGHT MIRACLE BEGINS WITH THE DROP OF “THE INVOCATION” TRAILER AHEAD OF SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE PERFORMANCE WITH CHAPPELLE AS HOST AND BEY AND KWELI AS SNL’S MUSICAL GUEST, BLACK STAR
BLACK STAR’S MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SO BE IT” – THE FIRST FROM THEIR ALBUM NO FEAR OF TIME AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY ON LUMINARY – ALSO JOINS THE MIDNIGHT MIRACLE UNIVERSE
Luminary, the leading subscription-based podcast and audio entertainment network, is today announcing the second season of its award-winning show The Midnight Miracle, hosted by Dave Chappelle, yasiin bey, and Talib Kwei. The second season trailer “The Invocation”– available now on the Luminary channel on Apple Podcasts – was released ahead of this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, where Chappelle hosts SNL post-U.S. mid-term elections and will be joined by The Midnight Miracle co-creators bey and Kweli performing as the musical guest Black Star. Season 2 full episodes will drop weekly continuing through early 2023, and Luminary will announce the first episode release date in the coming days. Season 2 features recordings from live audience sessions in London and Amsterdam while Chappelle was on tour with Chris Rock, as well as sessions in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Today Black Star also released its first music video for “So Be It” – a track off their latest album No Fear of Time. In Spring 2022, Luminary and The Midnight Miracle became the exclusive launch platform for No Fear Of Time – the first album from the legendary hip duo of yasiin bey and Talib Kweli since their genre-defining album release in 1998 – Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star. The statement-making release strategy was heralded as an extension of Black Star’s art in itself, and the Bugs Bunny Mathematicx episode in Season 1 of The Midnight Miracle serves as liner notes to the ethos of the album release.
And finally, Luminary and Blue Note announced today that Black Star will perform in a Midnight show at New York’s Sony Hall on Tuesday, November 15th fresh off of their SNL performance, as Luminary builds on its mission to bring culture from streaming to stages.
The return of The Midnight Miracle’s second season follows the news earlier this year of Chappelle’s partnership with Luminary as an investor and board member through his company Pilot Boy Productions.
The Midnight Miracle is produced in partnership with Chappelle’s Pilot Boy Productions and was named one of the best podcasts of 2021 by The New York Times and The Atlantic. The show features an original audio format, inclusive of important conversation, music, and archival footage, showcasing how Luminary has reimagined what a podcast can be.
“The Midnight Miracle is a true audio masterpiece led by Dave Chappelle, Talib Kweli, and yasiin bey. They represent some of the most thoughtful voices of our generation and together deliver a forum that addresses the world as it’s happening today, with nuance and grace,” said Rishi Malhotra, CEO of Luminary. “The Miracle is a place where conversation, debate, music, and tone come together. Luminary is proud to be the home to original work that is so vital to the culture and elevates the conversation amongst all of us.”
Season 2 also follows the release of the first vinyl edition of The Midnight Miracle, a limited edition blue-on-blue swirl record, housed in a luxe gatefold jacket and full-colour inner sleeve designed by Grammy-nominated artist and photographer Mathieu Bitton. Continuing to redefine the podcast genre with this new audio format, the vinyl is available for purchase for U.S. residents with an annual subscription to Luminary.
