ASTERIX AND OBELIX: l’Empire du Milieu will be released on February 1, 2023 in Quebec, simultaneously with the release in France. The blockbuster directed by Guillaume Canet signals, 10 years after the exceptional success in Quebec of the last adaptation (Asterix and Obelix: In the Service of His Majesty), the return of the irreducible Gauls!
We are in 50 BC. The Empress of China is imprisoned following a coup d’état set in motion by Deng Tsin Quin, a prince. Helped by Graindemaïs, the Phoenician merchant, and by his faithful warrior Tat Han, Princess Fu-Yi, the empress’s only daughter, flees to Gaul to ask for help from the two valiant warriors Asterix and Obelix, endowed with superhuman strength thanks to their magic potion. Our two inseparable Gauls of course agree to help the Princess to save her mother and liberate her country. And here they are all on their way to a great adventure to China. But Caesar and his powerful army, always thirsty for conquest, also took the direction of the Middle Kingdom…
The fifth live-action film from the Asterix and Obelix franchise created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, ASTERIX AND OBELIX: l’Empire du Milieu is also the first film based on an original story, written by Guillaume Canet, Philippe Mechelen and Julien Hervé. For this new adaptation of the adventures of the famous Gauls loved by the Quebec public, Guillaume Canet stars in the role of Asterix and brings together an impressive cast at his side composed, among others, of Gilles Lellouche in the role of Obelix, Vincent Cassel, Marion Cotillard, Philippe Katerine, Jonathan Cohen, Pierre Richard and Ramzy Bedia. The musician M (Matthieu Chedid) provides the soundtrack of the film.
