Karaba is a French-Congolese artist who grew up in Montreal. Currently based in Los Angeles, the DJ offers music that is both electric and captivating, mixing Afro house and Afrobeats. Her new EP Délivrance (released on Nov 18) inspired by her personal experiences, delivers a message of celebration with the goal of inspiring people, especially young black girls.
Franco-Congolese artist Karaba moved to Montreal during her childhood and then quickly turned toward international hubs like New York and Los Angeles to pursue her first passion – dance. While in L.A., she had the opportunity to dance for the likes of Drake, Camilla Cabello and Selena Gomez. After the cancellation of an important tour in 2016, Karaba signed up to Scratch DJ Academy in Los Angeles and discovered DJing and music production.
She is primarily based in L.A. to this day and is about to release her debut EP Délivrance, which combines her love for creation and movement with her desire to master music production. The opus is infused with rich African influence and blends the electricity of afro house and afro beats. Karaba likes to see people dance and feel the music the way she does. She often shares her mixes on Tik-Tok, where she has more than 450,000 followers.
Composed of 6 tracks, Délivrance is the result of several years of hard work. Karaba describes her personal experiences, particularly in the title track, on which she writes about the progress she’s made over the last two years. On “Mouzou“, she alludes to her relationship with her father. For this EP, the DJ worked alongside her mentor Stephen Ramsay (Young Galaxy), Mopao Mumu and Afrikan Drums. Karaba wants to spread a message of celebration that inspires people – especially young black women.
