The first of a planned series of two films, Alienoid was written and directed by Dong-hoon Choi is a time-warper of a sci-fi film. Not told in a linear way, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is hard to follow at times.

A story that weaves together two eras – the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392) and the present day. Two shamans from the Goryeo Dynasty are hunting down a famous blade that can bend time and somehow they end up meeting up with people in the present who are attempting to hunt down and capture an evil alien that has taken up residence in a human body.

Korean films of this sort are usually nothing short of fun. Certainly not dull, you do get a mishmash of action and comedy in Alienoid. Personally, I like the comedic side more than the action. That seemed to work better. There is some decent CGI but I thought the aliens looked a little bit too much like Venom for my liking.

It might take a bit of an adjustment for you to settle into the rhythm or pathway of the film, but once you do it is not too bad. There always seems to be several directions or ideas going on at the same time here. Sometimes it will make your head spin. You get some romance, some kicking of ass kung fu style and laser-wielding aliens. The good guys are more enjoyable than the bad guys, which is too bad. having legit bad guys always ups the calibre of a film.

Hopefully there will be a part two because you are kinda left hanging here. A wrapping up of the story is required or that will be really frustrating.
