Based on the international best seller by author Lee Child, Reacher was previously made into a film starring Tom Cruise in the lead role and now it has been adapted into a series. The series follows a retired Military Police Officer named Jack Reacher (played by Alan Ritchson) who has been arrested for a murder he did not commit. Something happened in Margrave, Georgia and he has to figure out what to clear his name.
While using his investigator skills, Reacher finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy involving dirty cops, sleazy businessmen and politicians who are not exactly above board.
Season One has 9 episodes and intrigue and action are the focal points. though Tom Cruise is a super popular actor and an action film god, he was miscast in the film version of Reacher. The books describe him as a large man. That is not Tom. Alan Ritchson is better suited for the role. Physically, I mean. He also accurately portrays Reacher’s personality as it is described in the novels. Reacher is supposed to be an outsider who does not talk very much and who possesses a nasty side. Ritchson does a good job with that. It is realistic that Reacher is a guy who can take people on by himself and come out on top. All in all, the series has a better launching off point just due to the casting of the lead role.
Series will really be a pleaser for fans of action and mystery. It will hook you in early due to the intrigue in the story and keep you interested as it keeps lining up the surprises. Enough that you will be looking forward to season two.
Shows that sticking to the formula of a successful novel (series) is a good strategy as fans of the book will follow along as they have already bought in.
