DAVE CHAPPELLE, YASIIN BEY, AND TALIB KWELI ARE
THE MIDNIGHT MIRACLE
Named one of the best podcasts of 2021 by The New York Times and The Atlantic – The Midnight Miracle brings fans back into the irreverent and cerebral worlds of the trio and their guests.
Luminary, the leading subscription-based podcast and audio entertainment network, announced the return of its award-winning show The Midnight Miracle, hosted by Dave Chappelle, yasiin bey, and Talib Kwei. The first episode – “A Magnificent Day for an Exorcism”– is available now on the Luminary channel on Apple Podcasts and on Luminary.
Last night during his comedy show with Chris Rock at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, Chappelle announced the return of The Midnight Miracle and played a trailer video as part of the introduction to bey and Kweli’s performance as Black Star. This was Chappelle’s first show in Los Angeles since an armed attacker rushed him on stage when he performed at the Hollywood Bowl in May. The Midnight Miracle trio also recently appeared on Saturday Night Live (SNL) when Chappelle hosted the show with musical guest, Black Star.
The next episodes of Season 2 will drop in early January and continue through spring 2023. Episodes feature recordings from Yellow Springs, Ohio and live audience sessions in London and Amsterdam while Chappelle was on tour with Chris Rock.
The Midnight Miracle is produced in partnership with Chappelle’s Pilot Boy Productions and was named one of the best podcasts of 2021 by The New York Times and The Atlantic. The show features an original audio format, inclusive of an important conversation, music, and archival footage, showcasing how Luminary has reimagined what a podcast can be.
In a recent interview with The New York Times for his Surrender memoir, U2 musician and activist Bono described The Midnight Miracle as a “great example of how text, conversation, music, and atmospherics collide and collage perfectly.”
The return of The Midnight Miracle’s second season follows the news earlier this year of Chappelle’s partnership with Luminary as an investor and board member through his company Pilot Boy Productions.
“The Midnight Miracle is a true audio masterpiece led by Dave Chappelle, Talib Kweli, and yasiin bey. They represent some of the most thoughtful voices of our generation and together deliver a forum that addresses the world as it’s happening today, with nuance and grace,” said Rishi Malhotra, CEO of Luminary. “The Miracle is a place where conversation, debate, music, and tone come together. Luminary is proud to be the home to original work that is so vital to the culture and elevates the conversation amongst all of us.”
Season 2 also follows the release of the first vinyl edition of The Midnight Miracle, a limited edition blue-on-blue swirl record, housed in a luxe gatefold jacket and full-colour inner sleeve designed by Grammy-nominated artist and photographer Mathieu Bitton.
