This Broadway hit will be presented in Montreal at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier from Tuesday, March 28 to Sunday, April 2.
Aladdin, the popular Academy Award-winning® animated film adapted from the animated film, opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, where it was critically acclaimed and quickly became one of the biggest new hits of recent years, breaking 14 attendance records at the New Amsterdam Theatre. The North American tour is one of six productions around the world, in addition to Broadway, Tokyo, Netherlands, Mexico City and Germany. Since the show’s Broadway premiere in 2014, more than 14 million people have seen one of the 10 productions around the world. Two new productions will open in the coming year.
Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the musical Aladdin features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act); lyrics by two-time Oscar® winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid). ), three-time Tony and three-Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and six-time Tony Award-nominated author Chad Beguelin ( The Prom, The Wedding Singer); and a libretto by Beguelin. The show is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).
Adapted from Disney’s animated film and century-old tales, including “One Thousand and One Nights,” Aladdin comes to life on stage in the form of a refreshing new musical. The story of Aladdin takes audiences on a journey to an exotic world brimming with thrills, humour and a timeless romance. This new production includes a complete musical score, including the five beloved songs from the Academy Award-winning soundtrack and new songs written especially for the show.
The animated film Aladdin was released by Disney in 1992 and was a critical and commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing box office film of the year.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Score and includes the popular song “A Whole New World,” which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle’s version of the song reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
Aladdin was designed by 7-award-winning set designer Tony Bob Crowley, 7-award-winning lighting designer Tony Natasha Katz, 2-award-winning costume designer Tony Gregg Barnes, and sound designer Ken Travis.
The production team also includes illusion designer Jim Steinmeyer, hair designer Josh Marquette and makeup designer Milagros Medina-Cerdeira. The music team is led by music supervisor and musical director Michael Kosarin, who also created the vocal and musical arrangements. He has collaborated with orchestrator Danny Troob and dance music arranger Glen Kelly. Anne Quart is the co-producer of the show.
