Deep Impact was originally released 25 years ago (May 8, 1998). With a supporting cast of Hollywood “A” listers including Tea Leoni, Robert Duvall, Elijah Wood, Morgan Freeman, and Jon Favreau. This motion picture was highly anticipated prior to its release.   Deep Impact came out at a time when other comparable apocalyptic disaster films were being presented such as Armageddon

Investigative reporter Jenny Lerner, based in Washington, D.C. (played by Téa Leoni), is looking into rumors surrounding the Secretary of the Treasury’s resignation, allegedly due to an affair with a woman named Ellie. However, when she confronts him, she finds him stockpiling survival gear on his boat and using cryptic language to describe Ellie. Her confusion only intensifies when she is stopped by the secret service and brought to meet the President, who requests her to suppress her story for 48 hours. Jenny’s subsequent research reveals that “Ellie” actually stands for the extinction-level event, and two days later, the world discovers that a comet is hurtling towards Earth with the potential to wipe out all life.

Deep Impact has been remastered to improve the picture and sound quality. The newer bonus features include a 40-minute collection of extras, such as Audio Commentary, Preparing for the End, Making an Impact, Creating the Perfect Traffic Jam, Parting Thoughts, a Photo Gallery, a Teaser Trailer, and a Theatrical Trailer. The film’s serious treatment of a grave subject matter earned praise from scientists for its scientific exactitude. If you relish Sci-Fi disaster movies focused on the end of the world, the new 4K Deep Impact is a must-have.
