“Monkey Man” follows Kid (Patel) on his quest to avenge his mother’s death by confronting the elite who perpetuate the oppression of the poor.  The film begins with the legendary tale of Hanuman, epitomizing strength and courage. We are introduced to a young Kid and his nurturing mother, whose relationship is tragically severed by police brutality sanctioned by the oppressors. As the story shifts to an adult Kid, we witness his underground battles to earn money and uncover crucial information about his enemies. The narrative intricately weaves historical context into the present, adding depth and richness to the story.

“Monkey Man” redefines the revenge action genre with its compelling storyline and inventive action sequences. Patel’s direction and portrayal are exceptional, particularly in the gripping car and foot chases that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Despite the prevalence of action films with high body counts, this movie continues to surprise and engage. Patel’s magnetic on-screen presence and impressive stunt work highlight his versatility.

Although the revenge theme is familiar, the unique blend of cultural and religious elements sets this film apart. It underscores the socioeconomic disparities influenced by religious leaders, serving as the film’s core message.

In conclusion, “Monkey Man” is a triumphant directorial debut and a refreshing addition to the revenge action genre. Patel’s dual role as director and star makes this film a must-see for action enthusiasts.
