Christina Hawthorne (played by Jada Pinkett Smith) is one tough ass lady. She is the director of nursing at a hospital who will go to any length for her patients. Her life is a juggling act as she has a demanding job plus she is a widowed single mother trying to bring up a headstrong teenage daughter (played by Hannah Hodson) on her own.
At the beginning of season two her hospital is shut down due to cutbacks so Christina and several doctors and nurses move on to the struggling James River Hospital. There a whole new set of challenges for Christina after the move. The biggest is that the hospital is going to go in front of the review board to determine whether it too should close.
