banshee the complete third seasonIf you are late the party here is a short resumé of the HBO series: an ex-con assumes the identity of recently deceased Sheriff Lucas Hood (played by Antony Starr) in a small town in Pennsylvania. The residents of Banshee don’t catch on as Sheriff Hood had not made it to town before being killed. Despite the dangers of playing this game the ex-con has a reason to be there. It is because he is looking for his former heist partner and lover, Ana. Amazingly, Ana has also taken on a new identity in that she is now known as Carrie Hopewell (played by Ivana Milicevic), a married mother of two. To make things even more interesting Carrie’s husband Gordon (played by Rus Blackwell) is Banshee’s District Attourney. Of course! The interlinking of characters does not stop there.

For most of us morality is pretty set in stone, but in Banshee it is all kinds of grey. Straddling the line between good and bad is a strength of the series. Things you might have previously thought would completely turn you off because of the frenetic and engaging pace of the goings on in the series you begin accepting. It is all heightened emotion, violence and pretty explicit sex. You just need to surrender to it all to enjoy the chaos. Banshee is the perfect example of a back water town.

Everything comes fast and furious in season three. There is a huge heist, a troubled teenage daughter, local gangster Kai Proctor (played by Ulrich Thomsen) is stirring up his usual amount of trouble or maybe even more now that his niece Rebecca (played by Lili Simmons) has been brought into the family business, a group on the Reservation are plotting to attack their white neighbours and if that is not enough to keep you interested then they have also added a new Neo-Nazi character named Bunker (played by Tom Pelphrey) who will cause plenty of problems.

This is a show in which you will find yourself constantly uttering “Where can they go next” and then they will go somewhere you didn’t see coming. OMG moments aplenty.
